How to Pick a Scuba Regulator (Without Losing Your Mind or Your Bubbles)
One of the biggest gear investments you'll make as a diver is your regulator. After all, this is the equipment that delivers the air you breathe underwater, making it one of the most important pieces of gear you'll own.
For many divers, choosing a regulator can feel overwhelming. Terms like first stage, second stage, DIN, yoke, balanced, and unbalanced get thrown around constantly, and it's not always clear what actually matters for your diving.
The good news? Regulators are far less complicated than they first appear. Once you understand a few key concepts, you'll be able to make an informed decision and choose a system that fits your diving goals for years to come.
Let's break it down together, diver to diver.

Dive Into Lembeh: Macro Photography Adventure
For one unforgettable week in April 2026, I joined a group of passionate divers and photographers at Dive Into Lembeh Resort for an intensive underwater photography workshop. Between the world-class muck diving, the laid-back resort vibe, and the sheer creativity that filled every dive briefing and editing session, it was the kind of trip that changes how you see the underwater world.
Singapore: Three Nights of City Energy Before the Macro-Magic of Lembeh
Singapore was the perfect three-night stop before heading to Lembeh. Staying in Little India at Serangoon House, I explored the city’s culture, hawker food, the Jewel waterfall, Gardens by the Bay, and iconic nightly light shows. A beautiful blend of color, calm, and adventure before the macro-magic ahead.
Curated for the Current: KOOK Spotlight
Salt hair, sunburns, and that post-dive “why do I look like this” moment… we’ve all been there. After sitting down with the founder of KOOK, I found products that actually keep up with long dive days and protect the ocean while doing it. This one is for every diver who is over the damage and ready for a better routine.
Exciting News: Seaira Dives is Moving!
Change is a constant in military life, and after years of service, both my husband and I are embarking on an exciting new adventure. As we close one chapter and begin another, we’ve made the bold decision to leave behind Maryland and move to the beautiful Big Island of Hawaii. This move marks a return to the islands we’ve always loved, and we’re excited to dive into this new chapter of our lives!
Running My First Instructor Development Course
Running my first PADI Instructor Development Course was a meaningful full-circle moment in my professional journey. This IDC was intentionally planned before the busy season to give new instructors the time and space to build confidence, gain experience, and transition smoothly into teaching roles. Using the Annapolis pool for confined water and Lake Phoenix for open water training, we focused on real-world readiness, mentorship, and developing instructors who lead with safety, empathy, and professionalism.
How to Spend a 20-Hour Layover in Singapore as a Solo Female Traveler
A long layover doesn’t have to mean sitting in an airport terminal. During a 20-hour stop in Singapore, I turned a simple connection into a solo adventure — exploring hawker markets, cruising the Singapore River, watching the Marina Bay light shows, and visiting the famous Rain Vortex at Jewel Changi Airport. Here’s exactly how to make the most of a Singapore layover.
Becoming a PADI Course Director
After years of teaching, mentoring, and building Seaira Dives from the ground up, I achieved one of the highest honors in professional diving — becoming a PADI Course Director. In March, I traveled to Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia to complete the prestigious Course Director Training Course (CDTC), a milestone that marks not the end of my journey, but the beginning of a new chapter — training and inspiring the next generation of PADI Professionals.
Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia
Arriving in Kota Kinabalu five days before the PADI CDTC wasn’t just smart—it was transformative. From the moment the warm tropical air hit me at the airport, Borneo exceeded every expectation. I explored the waterfront markets, tasted Sabah’s rich blend of cultures through its food, dove the islands of Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park, and settled into the rhythm of this coastal city. Those first days in KK grounded me, adjusted my internal clock, and set the tone for everything that followed in my CDTC journey.
How to Choose the Right Fins and Booties for Diving
Your fins and booties are your underwater engine — get them right, and every dive feels effortless. Get them wrong, and you’ll be fighting the water (and maybe some sore calves). In this guide, I break down how to choose the perfect pair, from booties that protect your feet on rocky shore entries to fins that match your kicking style. We’ll even tackle the great split fin debate and share my top picks for everyday, travel, and modular options.
Morocco Part IV, Rabat
Rabat surprised me in every possible way. After exploring Marrakech, the Sahara, Fes, and Chefchaouen, Morocco’s coastal capital felt elegant, calm, and refreshingly sophisticated. From our stay at the Ritz-Carlton Rabat—booked entirely with Marriott points—to wandering the Kasbah of the Udayas, visiting Hassan Tower, and experiencing the best hammam of our trip, Rabat became the peaceful anchor of our 11-night Morocco journey.
Morocco Part III, Fes and Chefchaouen
Part Three of our Morocco adventure brought us to Fes, where we checked into the luxurious Riad Fes—booked completely with AMEX points—and enjoyed an unforgettable rooftop wine tasting overlooking the ancient medina. The next day, we took a private day trip to Chefchaouen, exploring its blue-washed lanes and peaceful mountain charm. Back in Fes, we shopped the souks, savored Moroccan cuisine, and ended the night with a traditional hammam treatment that felt utterly transformative.
Morocco Part II, The Sahara
Part Two of our Morocco adventure takes us on a 3-day Sahara Desert tour from Marrakech to Fes—crossing the High Atlas Mountains, visiting Aït Benhaddou, exploring the Dades and Todra Gorges, and arriving in Merzouga for a luxury desert camp experience. We rode camels at sunset, slept under a sky full of stars and learned about Berber culture along the way. It was long hours in the car—but absolutely worth every moment.
Morocco Part I, Marrakech
Our 11-night Morocco journey began in Marrakech, where we stayed in a traditional riad booked entirely with AMEX points. From navigating the medina and exploring the souks to joining a cooking class and settling into the rhythm of the city, Marrakech was the perfect introduction to Morocco’s culture, cuisine, and hospitality. This chapter includes what we packed for February, travel tips, language basics, safety notes, and why staying in the medina made all the difference.
