Scuba Certification and Courses FAQs

Learn more about SCUBA here! Have a question I didn’t answer? 👋 Contact me.

  • The minimum age for training is 10 years old.

  • The nice thing about earning your Open Water Diver certification is that a good deal of the training is self-paced. You are required to complete the eLearning prior to the start of the Confined Water portion of the training.

After completing the eLearning, we will start the Confined Water Portion of the training which includes 5 dives, learning various skills. After the Confined Water portion, we will move into the Open Water Dives, there are 4.

Typically, the training takes 3 days (not including eLearning).

  • A PADI certification card is like your scuba ID. The certification card (or C Card) shows a dive shop what level you are at, which indicates how deep you can go and what the dive shop can expect of you as a diver.

  • A PADI certification NEVER expires. However, if you have not gone diving within 6 months, it is recommended that you take the ReActivate scuba refresher course.

  • Each training course has a different cost based on time, equipment, and class size. Private lessons are priced on a case-by-case basis.

  • The essential gear a diver needs:

    • Mask

    • Snorkel

    • Fins

    • Boots (unless you have fins that do not require boots)

    • Buoyancy Control Device (BCD)

    • Regulator and Octopus (your secondary regulator)

    • Dive Computer and Gauges

    • Air Tank

    • Weights

  • YES! People with disabilities can learn to Scuba Dive! We are happy to accommodate special needs individuals at Seaira Dives.

  • Junior Open Water Divers are certified to 40 feet or the depth you reached during your training if shallower.

As an Open Water Diver, you are only certified to 60 feet OR the depth you reached during your training if that is shallower than 60 feet.

Advanced Open Water Divers are certified to a maximum depth of 100 feet.

  • Your instructor will be Ciara!

  • You do not need to be local! But for the confined and open water portion of training, you must travel to the DMV area for classes UNLESS you’re doing this portion of training on a travel trip and indicate you would like to receive training.

  • Direct from their page:Divers Alert Network (DAN), a nonprofit organization, exists to provide expert medical information for the benefit of the diving public.

DAN’s historic and primary function is to provide timely information and assistance for underwater diving injuries, to work to prevent injuries, and to promote dive safety.

Second, DAN promotes and supports underwater dive research and education, particularly as it relates to the improvement of dive safety, medical treatment and first aid.

Third, DAN strives to provide the most accurate, up-to-date and unbiased information on issues of common concern to the diving public, primarily — but not exclusively — for dive safety
