Dive Into Adventure: Becoming a Divemaster

Completing my Divemaster training with Seaira Dives was an incredibly rewarding experience. It was one of the most fulfilling experiences I’ve had in my diving journey, and a large part of that was working with Owner and Instructor Ciara, whom I can’t speak highly enough about. Her knowledge, patience, and passion for diving and teaching made every part of the journey feel supportive and inspiring.

One of the best parts of the program was the flexibility it offered. Since Ciara and I live in different states, being able to complete much of the classroom and theory portions virtually was a game-changer. It allowed us to stay on track with the training without sacrificing depth or quality. The virtual sessions were interactive, well-organized, and tailored to my learning pace, which made a huge difference.

Even better, the in-water portion of my training took place while I was on vacation, and it never once felt like it was taking away from the fun. In fact, it added to it. Being able to train in beautiful dive sites, surrounded by amazing marine life, made the learning feel natural and exciting. Whether I was assisting with students, running dive briefings, or refining my skills, everything felt well-paced and integrated into the experience.

Ciara struck the perfect balance between professionalism and fun. I always felt supported, challenged, and encouraged. Thanks to Seaira Dives, I came away from the Divemaster program not only with a certification, but with a deeper love for diving and a sense of confidence that I’ll carry with me on every dive.

I first met Ciara years ago at another dive shop when I was training for my Open Water certification. We immediately connected over our shared Army backgrounds, and from that point forward I knew I wanted to keep training with her. When she launched Seaira Dives, there was no question I would follow. Ciara understands what it means to be a veteran, the discipline, the patience, and the need for trust, and she brings all of that to her teaching.

Her professionalism and depth of knowledge are unmatched. She has a rare ability to make complex skills approachable and creates an environment where learning is not only safe and structured but also incredibly fun. Whether it’s skills training, learning about different types of dive gear, or attending one of her great social dive events around the MD, VA, DC, and PA area, Ciara builds a real sense of community among divers.

What truly sets her apart is how inclusive and welcoming she is. Ciara makes everyone feel comfortable: veterans, beginners, families, and members of the LGBTQ+ community alike. She fosters a space where everyone can learn, dive, and grow without judgment, which is something rare and deeply appreciated in the diving world.

Ciara also plans some of the best dive adventures around the world. I’ve been lucky to join several of her trips, including Good Vibes and Deep Dives in Tenerife, New Year’s Eve in Curaçao, Explore the Famous Tiger Beach in the Bahamas, and the upcoming Take Me to Thailand. Each trip is expertly organized, filled with amazing dives, and surrounded by incredible people who share a love for the ocean and exploration.

The Divemaster program was challenging but deeply rewarding, a year-long journey that pushed me, inspired me, and left me a far more confident diver and leader. I have taken nearly every PADI course she offers, and each one reinforced why she is one of the best in the business.
