Celebrating Two Years of Seaira Dives

A Journey of Growth, Community, and Purpose Beneath the Surface

Two years ago, Seaira Dives was just a dream—a vision to build a scuba community rooted in inclusion, wellness, and adventure. Today, that dream has taken us across continents, brought 20+ brand-new divers into the water, and supported over 100 divers across all training levels—fueling a thriving crew of ocean-loving humans who look out for one another above and below the surface.

As we celebrate our second anniversary, we’re reflecting on the growth, the memories, and the mission that guides every class, every dive, and every trip we share. And a big milestone: Ciara earned PADI Master Instructor (2025)—a testament to our commitment to high-quality, student-centered training.

🍻 Local Diver Meetups

One of the most exciting additions this year was launching our Local Diver Meetups. Once a month, Ciara hosted relaxed get-togethers at different breweries around the area. No tanks, no gear bags—just divers coming together to connect over good conversation and community.

These nights turned into the perfect way to:

  • Swap dive stories and start planning buddy trips

  • Talk through gear questions and share recommendations

  • Meet new local dive friends in a fun, low-pressure setting

  • Stay connected between courses, lake weekends, and travel adventures

Each meetup took on its own vibe—sometimes a casual happy hour, sometimes a deep dive (pun intended) into trip planning and dream destinations. Whether you were brand-new to scuba or a seasoned pro, there was always room at the table.

Looking back, these meetups became one of our favorite ways to grow the Seaira Dives community—pint in hand and bubbles on the brain. Many new friendships (and buddy teams!) started right there, over a shared love of the ocean.

🌍 Adventures Around the World

This year, we didn’t just dive locally—we went global with three unforgettable group trips that bonded our community:

🇨🇼 Curaçao (Dec 27–Jan 3)
New Year’s underwater—and in style! Postcard-blue water, shore dives brimming with color, coral-draped walls, and cozy nights swapping stories over beachside dinners. The water was warm, perfectly clear, and the resort was absolutely stunning. Huge milestone: two new Divemasters earned their pro certification on this trip—congrats!
Trip highlights: easy shore entries, vibrant reef life and coral for days, a festive NYE celebration, celebrating two brand-new Divemasters, and lots of buddy-bonding between dives. We also had 3 divers complete their FIRST night dive!

🇲🇻 Maldives (Feb 14–22)
Drift dives over vibrant reefs with sharks on every dive and turtles cruising past; between dives, bottlenose and spinner dolphins put on a show off the bow. We logged five shark species (including a leopard/zebra shark) plus hawksbill and loggerhead turtles, and endless schools of reef fish. The resort was jaw-dropping, and we celebrated birthdays and anniversaries together.
Trip highlights: silky drifts with expert boat crews, surprise dolphin sightings, celebratory dinners, and serious logbook glow-ups.

🇧🇸 Tiger Beach, Bahamas (May 17–24)
A thrill-packed liveaboard week aboard the Bahamas Aggressor: we counted 9+ individual tiger sharks plus a great hammerheadfive shark species in total—and spotted three species of sea turtles. Gin-clear water below, stargazing and laughs above—pure community magic.
Trip highlights: calm Bahamas visibility, respectful big-animal encounters, surface-interval sunsets, and a boatful of new best friends. The crew was absolutely amazing and we truly had the best time!

📚 Milestones in Training

If there’s one word to describe this dive season, it’s epic. From first breaths underwater to instructor-level achievements, our crew showed up, geared up, and crushed it. Every course, every certification, every smile at the surface tells a story—and together, those stories made this year unforgettable.

In just the 2025 scuba summer season, we welcomed 10 brand-new Open Water divers into the family, and they wasted no time leveling up. Eight divers went Advanced, while 4 tackled Rescue and discovered what it means to truly look out for their dive buddies. Six divers took it all the way to Divemaster, officially stepping into pro-level leadership. We even celebrated our very first Assistant Instructor (YAY TIM)—the beginning of a whole new chapter in mentorship.

Safety and leadership training had a big spotlight too: we trained 2 new EFR Instructors and added 2 more EFR certifications to the mix, keeping our community sharp and prepared. Because a confident diver is a safe diver, and that confidence is contagious.

Specialties? Oh, we went all in. We had a blast with 11 Dry Suit divers mastering buoyancy in cold water, 10 Peak Performance Buoyancy divers learning to glide like pros, and 11 Enriched Air divers unlocking longer bottom times (who doesn’t love that?). The adrenaline junkies dove deep—literally—with 1 Deep Diver, 2 Wreck Divers, and 3 DPV students zooming through the water on scooters. We also continued to expand comfort and communication skills with Full Face Mask training, helping divers discover new ways to connect and thrive underwater.

And because the ocean itself is always our classroom, we connected with its wildest residents: 4 Sea Turtle Awareness divers, 4 Shark Conservation divers, 8 Whale Shark Awareness divers, and 3 Lionfish Awareness divers. We had underwater photographers capturing memories, wreck explorers navigating history, and plenty more specialties bubbling up for the future.

We didn’t stop there—two Discover Scuba Dive programs gave new adventurers a chance to try scuba for the very first time. For some, it was the spark that will fuel a lifetime of underwater exploration.

But what makes me most proud is how our crew embraced adaptive diving. We ran two Adaptive Techniques Specialty sessions for pros and two Adaptive Support Diver courses for certified buddies—each one building a more inclusive community where every diver belongs.

Add in 7 new Master Scuba Divers (the black belts of scuba), plus 5 ReActivate refreshers for divers jumping back in, and you’ve got a season that truly touched every corner of scuba training.

👋 Team Growth: Welcome Tim

This year, I was thrilled to welcome Tim to the Seaira Dives team after teaching him in his Assistant Instructor course. From the start, it was clear he shared our passion for diving and our student-first mindset, and we’ve been so fortunate to have him join us.

With over 30 years of diving and 800+ logged dives, Tim brings incredible experience—whether exploring coral reefs, shipwrecks, or helping new divers take their first breaths underwater. His background as a U.S. Army MP and longtime police lieutenant shines through in the responsibility, fairness, and respect he shows to every student.

Since retiring, Tim has devoted more time to diving, including volunteering as a diver at the National Aquarium in Baltimore to promote ocean conservation. I’m so excited for you to meet him at upcoming weekends and dive trips—he’s a fantastic addition to our Seaira Dives family!

Also a shoutout to Claudine who stepped in to help with a confined water session when Ciara was out staffing an IDC - THANK YOU CLAUDINE!

💙 Confidence, Connection, and Inclusive Diving

Scuba is more than a sport—it’s a pathway to healing, confidence, and connection. This year we leaned into that truth in so many ways:

  • We taught Adaptive Techniques and Adaptive Support Diver courses, giving both pros and dive buddies the tools to make diving more inclusive and accessible for all abilities.

  • We supported brand-new divers who were looking for a safe, judgment-free space to learn, grow, and challenge themselves.

  • We watched hesitations turn into breakthroughs—one calm breath at a time—as students discovered strength, peace, and joy beneath the surface.

  • We saw friendships form and dive buddies for life come together, proving that scuba isn’t just about the dives—it’s about the community you build along the way.

  • We celebrated milestones big and small: from first breaths underwater to pro-level certifications, each one a reminder of how transformational diving can be.

  • And most importantly, we reinforced that scuba is for everyone. Every student, every diver, every story added to the culture of inclusivity we’re building together.

Looking back, the water gave us more than just beautiful dives this year—it gave us healing, empowerment, and a stronger community than ever before.

🌸 Women’s Dive Day — Community in Action

This year’s Women’s Dive Day was nothing short of unforgettable. We came together not just to dive, but to celebrate the power of supportive, inclusive spaces where women can learn, grow, and thrive together underwater.

We kicked things off with skills tune-ups and buddy-building exercises, creating a safe, encouraging space for divers to sharpen techniques and support one another. But it wasn’t just about training—it was about connection, laughter, and celebrating the joy of being in community.

Each diver received a special goodie bag packed with thoughtful treats: eco-friendly Stream2Sea products, a sustainable Waterlust scrunchie, a sleek Seaira Dives rash guard, and a few extra surprises to make the day even brighter. These little tokens weren’t just fun—they were a way to say thank you for being part of our crew and to remind everyone that they belong here.

We capped the day with sparkling cider toasts, raising our glasses to honor first dives, personal milestones, and the deep friendships forged through diving. It was a celebration of everything Women’s Dive Day stands for—lifting each other up, in and out of the water.

By the end of the day, the smiles said it all. New buddies were made, confidence grew, and the sense of community that makes diving so special was stronger than ever. Truly, an absolute blast from start to finish.

🌱 Wellness & Ocean Stewardship

Wellness is part of everything we do: mindful breathing, stress-reduction techniques, and a calm, supportive training environment. And we give back to the water that gives us so much through:

  • Dive Against Debris at Lake Allure, where our team rolled up their sleeves (and tanks!) to collect and report underwater trash, directly contributing to global marine conservation data.

  • PADI AWARE specialty courses led by Ciara—including Shark Conservation, Sea Turtle Awareness, Whale Shark Awareness, and more—empowering divers with knowledge and action steps to protect the ocean.

  • A shared commitment to sustainable diving practices, from reef-safe habits to respectful marine life interactions.
